Taking up the Cross for Christ
Dearest hijas and hijo,
I came across this article by radio host and author Dr. Michael Brown, and while I don’t endorse the charismatic elements of his theology, the article itself is compelling and sits as a reminder of the true cost of taking up your cross for Christ (Mark 8:32, Luke 9:23).

Of particular note in the article are Dr. Brown’s following key thoughts:
- If you speak up for the unborn, you will be targeted.
- If you uphold marriage and family as God intended, you will be targeted.
- If you engage in effective outreach to the lost, you will be targeted.
- If you claim salvation is only through Jesus, you will be targeted.
- If you resist LGBTQ+ activism in the schools, you will be targeted.
- If you preach the Word of God, with brokenness and humility but without compromise or dilution, you will be targeted.
- It is inevitable and it is unavoidable.
- As summed up by Paul, writing to Timothy, “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” (2 Timothy 3:10–12)”
The gist of Dr. Brown’s argument does not only apply to Christian leaders. It applies to all godly men and women who individually take a stand for allegiantly swearing Christ as LORD and are men and women of conviction who will not compromise on God’s Word (see my post Death to Death or Life to Life). In other words, if you are laity, and not a Christian leader, this applies to you as well.
